This Monday, August 28 a peculiar transfer in the Liga MX was announced as reports from MedioTiempo indicate that Mexican team Atlas are in for English midfielder Ravel Morrison. The former Manchester United product was currently with Italian Serie A side Lazio but had no place with the team and needed a move away from the club.
The move is almost official and has been declared official by several credible sources such as renowned journalist Andre Marin. There are not many English players that play abroad in the first place which makes this move especially intriguing and odd.
Atlas is also not in need of attacking players with a few injuries and absences in the defense and midfield. The team from Guadalajara has suffered blows to Rafael Marquez, Clifford Aboagye and Leiton Jimenez in this Apertura 2017 and were in dire need of a defensive midfielder, not an attacking one.
Los Rojinegros have now failed to win in five straight games in the Liga MX and a major cause of this bad run of form has been a gap in the midfield. Morrison is a midfielder but a much more attacking option and it is unclear what plans manager Jose Guadalupe Cruz has for the Englishman in his starting 11.
The move is a great one to improve the internationalization and exposure of the Liga MX and success for Morrison in the highly competitive league can earn the former Manchester United player possible caps for the English national team.
