Slaven Bilic explains why he has no sympathy for Newcastle boss Benitez

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has claimed that he has little sympathy for Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez’s transfer situation.

The Spaniard Benitez has openly revealed his frustration towards the Magpies board as he feels that he was not given enough capital this summer to bolster his squad.

The Tyneside club have spent around £35 million on bolstering their side bringing in the likes of Joselu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo.

West Ham by contrast broke their transfer record by paying £24 million to land Marko Arnautovic and also forked out £16 million to land former Manchester United ace Javier Hernandez.

Bilic’s side will take on Newcastle this weekend in a game in which both sides will be looking to get their first points of the season following disappointing starts.

Bilic has now said of his opponents ahead of the game, “They are not happy with the transfers but they spent more money than we have spent in this transfer window, if we are talking about net money.

“Okay, they maybe needed more to improve because they came up from the Championship. It is a big club, they were all buzzing. They won the league and now it was ‘now we are going to rule the world’ or whatever.

“Maybe they tried. I think they tried. What I think happened is they tried but maybe they were unable to get those targets that they wanted. Like we did last year, for example.

“Maybe they were thinking too big and those players, they didn’t want to come. But I don’t feel that they are not an ambitious club, Newcastle, with Rafa Benitez, who basically lifted them up even more.”
