Garry Monk unwilling to sell striker to former club Leeds United

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has played down reports suggesting that Rudy Gestede could be set to join Leeds United.

The Whites are said to be looking for new strikers following the departure of Chris Wood to Burnley and have identified Gestede as a target.

Though the Whites signed Jay-Roy Grot, the youngster lacks experience which means that they may well look to sign a new striker but Monk has now played down suggestions that he will be allowing Gestede to leave for Elland Road.

Whilst speaking about the possibility of Gestede moving to the Yorkshire giants, Monk said, “It’s all speculation, so I don’t really have to answer on it. You can see from the performances of all the players that the attitude and commitment to what we’re doing is clearly there.”

The loss of New Zealand international Wood will be a big blow to Thomas Christiansen’s side, especially considering that he was the club’s top scorer for the past two seasons and also ended last term as the overall Championship top goal scorer.
