As per Portuguese newspaper the Record, West Ham are at the risk of missing out on Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder and key summer target William Carvalho, as Chelsea have revived their interest in the Portugal international, and are now considering a move.
Carvalho, 25, has told Lisbon he wants out this summer having been constantly linked with the Premier League in recent transfer windows.
West Ham and the Euros 2016 winner are said to have struck a deal as per personal terms, but the Portuguese side are holding out for £36.5million, as opposed to an initial £32million the Hammers had thought was enough to get their man.
While a deal between both clubs continues to stall, Chelsea’s emergence, were it to be indeed real, could all but end West Ham’s chances of getting Carvalho in the long run.
Not just £4.5million is now a threat to manager Slaven Bilic’s chances of landing his choice target, the Blues’ huge spending powers and influence could also be too much for the Hammers to handle.
Losing Carvalho would be a huge blow to the Olympic Stadium outfit, as getting an affordable midfielder able to deliver the enviable defending and attacking services of his won’t be easy for the club at this time of the window.
Time is fast running out for the Hammers to get this particular deal over the line, and their fellow London rivals could take advantage of their sloppiness.
