Rangers have been busy in the summer transfer market thus far, with manager Pedro Caixinha having already added 10 new signings to his squad as he attempts to do the “somewhat impossible” this term – break Celtic’s 6-season monopoly on the Scottish Premiership.
However, it’s been a gloomy and dismal start to the 2017-18 league campaign for the Gers.
They have managed to grab just a point from a possible 6, and Caixinha believes he is close to releasing the leash on summer arrival Carlos Pena.
The powerful and highly-witty Mexico international midfielder is expected to help improve Rangers following his £2.2million arrival from Liga MX side Guadalajara in June.
The 27-year-old has been made to wait for his first league start, making just one late substitute appearance against Hibernian thus far.
Caixinha claims he was close to putting the Mexican on during last Saturday’s goalless draw with Hearts, and he’s only waiting for the right time to “release” him on Premiership opposition.
The manager told the club’s official website, “Carlos is working hard so is Herrera.
“I know them very very well and I know that they are going to help us as a team and, of course, as individual players they are going to do very good in Scottish football.
“We just need to know the exact moment to release them and give them the chance to do it.
“But they are really working hard and I think that they are at the same level as the others at the moment.”
Rangers play Ross County away from home on Sunday in the 3rd round of the league campaign, and it could be a perfect time for Caixinha to let Pena start handling the big task ahead having prevented throwing him in at the deep end all along.
