Newcastle boss Benitez reportedly not giving up hopes of signing star from former club

Rafa Benitez’s tenure at Inter Milan may not have been very memorable, but he was in fact a manager at that famous old club and now that he’s at Newcastle, he’d very much like to see things turn out differently than it did then.

According to the Tuttomercato, he has a plan to help his side out greatly by signing Inter’s Stevan Jovetic in this window. The reports says he is not going to give up on signing the Montenegro man, despite presumably being at odds with owner Mike Ashley over it.

Jovetic, who spent last season at Sevilla, is unwanted at Inter. Inter have started well, and look settled, so they don’t to upset that at the moment. A move for him is almost a certainty, but are the Magpies a good fit?

He’d no doubt be a huge upgrade, but it’s a matter of money here. A loan move would maybe be a feasible deal, but even that is hard to see. It’s just hard to see him accepting the move as well. Maybe to a team like Stoke, who have also signed big name stars.

Newcastle have no such players, and thus, should struggle to make the signing in the end.
