As per Celtic striking legend John Hartson, the Parkhead outfit have got a rare gem in left-back Kieran Tierney, and should refuse any offer for him this summer as he could be worth double his current transfer market valuation in 2018.
Tierney, 20, is being courted by a lot of English heavyweights off the back of the splendid campaign he had with Celtic last season.
Hartson believes the Scotland international is worth at least £20million right now, but could be sold for as much as £50million next summer should he impress this season in Europe.
In his words on BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast (cited on The Scottish Sun): “Celtic are looking at, if a bid was to come in now, £20-25m.
“If Kieran Tierney has another season, if he’s outstanding in the Champions League, playing really well against the top teams, in the spotlight, all over the world being looked at by all the top clubs, all of a sudden, next year or the year after, you’re getting £45-50m for him.
“Why on earth would Brendan Rodgers sell Tierney right now? If I’m Brendan Rodgers, I’m saying ‘let him have another season here, keep your £25-30m for now, he’s got Champions League football, he loves playing for Celtic’.
“There is no doubt Kieran Tierney will go on and play for one of the top three or four clubs in England, and become one of the best left-backs in Europe.
“I have every confidence in Kieran Tierney to become a top, top player. He is a great player now, but he can only get better.”
Since emerging from within Celtic’s youth ranks in 2014, Tierney has gone ahead to establish himself in Rodgers starting XI, and not even a long-term injury last season threatened to take his berth away from him.
The versatile Scot is also able to play at right-back and in centre-defence, and it’s certain he won’t be with the club until 2021 when his current contract is due to expire.
“Scotland’s best player” based off on current form has claimed back-to-back PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year awards and made it to the PFA Scotland Team of the Year in the last 2 seasons.
The big sides will definitely come all out for Tierney’s signature soon, and while Celtic will have no choice than to let him go, they mustn’t hesitate to fully cash in on one of their most-valued assets.
