Keane backs Everton teammate for England call-up

Rooney

Everton defender Michael Keane has revealed that he feels that his team-mate Wayne Rooney deserves a recall to the England national team.

Rooney took his goal tally of the new Premier League season to two from two games after netting for his team against Manchester City on Monday during a 1-1 draw.

With the goal, Rooney also scored his 200th Premier League goal and become only the second player in history to reach the landmark, following in the footsteps of Alan Shearer.

Whilst talking about whether the veteran deserves a recall to the England squad, which will be named by Gareth Southgate on Thursday for World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia, Keane said, ‘Personally I think he deserves it the way he has been playing but that is up to the manager. There are a lot of good strikers who have been scoring goals so it is his decision.’

One of the reasons why the 31 year old Rooney re-joined his boyhood club was to boost his chances of making the England squad for the 2018 World Cup and he has certainly done well so far in his attempts to convince Southgate.
