Being a football manager and dealing with the media can be a very tough job to deal with.
Whether you choose to tell the truth, speak in half-truths, or use cliches is up to you. However, each comes with it’s own set of challenges that have to be overcome later.
Rafa Benitez, manager of Newcastle United, has made a stark admission in his latest press conference.
According to Sky Sports, the Magpies boss has said, “We knew when we were in the Championship that we needed to sign players for the Championship and now we have to move people. We have too many people, we have to wait until September 1 and everything will be different.”
While none of us will deny any of what he just said, he’s walking on very shaky ground. What if he does not sign any players between now and September 1? He’d be stuck with these ‘Championship’ players. Low morale is already settling in, and no one wants to hear how they aren’t up to stuff.
Benitez has never been a good man-manager, and this just goes to show he has no nous for dealing with social situations whatsoever. He might be best-served to walk on eggshells in the future, or he will be left looking like a fool when players are low on confidence.
