Aston Villa reportedly close to signing £10million man

According to reports out of the area, Aston Villa are said to be close to signing winger Robert Snodgrass on loan from parent club West Ham before the summer window closes.

The Birmingham Mail, however, states that they could have competition: “Sunderland are also keen on Snodgrass but Villa hope to wrap up the move.”

This move looks like a good one on paper, but it is a worrying one for Villa, who continue to play as if they are trying to firmly establish themselves as a nice mid-table Championship club instead of a team than can eventually establish themselves back in the Premier League.

Snodgrass may well help them now, but he is no guarantee. The other worry and consideration is that he doesn’t really offer much of an improvement over what they have currently.

He, who joined West Ham for around £10million, does though, offer deadly set pieces in his locker, and that could be a different type of option to the ones they currently have, which could be prompting this move.
