West Ham defender Winston Reid is unlikely to play for New Zealand during their upcoming World Cup qualification matches against the Solomon Islands on September 1 and 5 after suffering a calf injury while warming up ahead of the Hammers game against Southampton on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Reid was stretched off ahead of kickoff at St Mary’s and scans confirmed that he is in doubt for the All Whites upcoming games. The absence of Reid will be a blow to his country especially as he is captain of the side.
However, considering that New Zealand are heavyweights of the Oceania Confederation, they should have what it takes to win both teams if they do not get the basics wrong.
Despite making his debut for New Zealand in 2010, Reid has been reduced to just 20 appearances for his country with injuries taking its toll on him.
