Tottenham completed their long-awaited first signing of the summer transfer window in grand style on Friday, breaking the bank to bring in Davinson Sanchez from Ajax for £42million.

Spurs beat Inter Milan and Barcelona to the services of the 21-year-old centre-back, but a move to Camp Nou for him had looked certain this summer, according to Sky Sports transfer reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

Sanchez’s arrival is done and dusted for Tottenham, but Kaveh even goes further to claim they could still lose him to Barcelona in the future.

Rightly so, considering the Catalans are certain to need defensive reinforcements soon given their ageing backline.

Spurs have tied the highly-rated Colombian international down to a 6-year deal, and while it’s expected he plays his best football at north London, there is no guaranteeing he’d remain once he hits the peak and Barcelona and the likes come calling again.

For now, though, Sanchez will be providing quality backup and competition for Tottenham’s centre and right-back departments.

Having made him their club record signing, it’s obvious the youngster is a bag of potential, and all eyes, including Barcelona’s will now be on him as he goes about his job in the most competitive league on earth.
