Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been an inspiration to him since they first met when Rodgers was just 14 years old.
Ferguson is widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers in history after having won 13 Premier League titles, 2 Champions League titles, 5 FA Cup’s and 4 League Cups during a 27 year spell in charge of Manchester United.
Following his retirement as manager of the Red Devils in 2013, the club has struggled to emulate the success that Ferguson brought to the club.
Ferguson and Rodgers got an opportunity to catch up at the Street Soccer Scotland fundraising event on Thursday and Northern Irishman went on to reveal that the Scotsman has been an inspiration to him.
Rodgers said, “He is the big boss of everyone, up there as a beacon for every manager. He was incredible with what he formed, developed and cultivated and the way he also stayed modern all the way through.
“His enthusiasm, the drive and the hunger you have to always keep the complacency away. He mentioned the other night that complacency is like a disease. And we speak about it here every day.
“He probably has been a perennial figure in my development, if you look really closely at it. He is someone I have always had a huge admiration for. He is an inspiration that is for sure.”
