Three Things we learned as Leeds United draw another blank

Leeds United met fellow promotion favorites Fulham at Elland Road on Tuesday, and they each were forced to settle for goalless draw after a pulsating tie. Here are three thoughts from the action:

Leeds go scoreless for second straight home match

After a hot start to the season where the Whites scored bundles of goals with their new signings combining with their more successful players of last season, they have suddenly hit a brick wall. Being shutout by Fulham wouldn’t be seen as the worst thing on earth.

However, doing so in a home match after being held by Preston at the weekend is sure to cause some worries. Leeds were largely outplayed, and there will be a number of questions asked about the team and the status of striker Chris Wood. He had a great chance to score when in on goal, but he was denied by the opposition goalkeeper.

Top game from two top teams

There aren’t many better teams in term of the Championship, and this match showcased just that.

While Fulham and Leeds did both remain scoreless at the end of it, both sides showed why they are going to be fighting for a spot in the top six at the very least after a good back and forth game with chances aplenty for both teams.

Fulham may well have edged it on the night in terms of stats, but they each will have something to take from this match. Leeds shouldn’t be too disheartened to drop points to this quality side.

Wiedewald earns his ‘keep

The signing of Felix Wiedewald was one that some questioned initially due to the fact that Rob Green was still on the books. The veteran English ‘keeper remains on the books, but he has well and truly lost his place to his much younger German counterpart.

His save in the 78th minute on a one on one solidified the faith that his manager has showed in him. It’s his spot now, and it will take some doing to take that from him.
