Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for stepping up during the Reds Champions League playoff against German club Hoffenheim on Tuesday night.
Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring for the Reds with a free kick as they eventually went on to win 2-1.
Due to Philippe Coutinho’s absence, the youngster was given an opportunity to take the set-piece when Sadio Mane was fouled by Hoffenheim player Ermin Bicakcic.
He managed to convert the free kick into a goal and as a result of the youngster’s impressive display on the day; we are likely to see him getting more opportunities as the season progresses.
Gerrard said of the strike from the youngster, “It was a fabulous free-kick and it’s ironic really because maybe Coutinho might have took this free-kick if he was available
“It was a fantastic strike and what a night for the kid. He’s played superbly well in general but to step up and have the character to take that before the likes of [Jordan] Henderson and [Sadio] Mane. It does say a lot.”
