Liverpool shot-stopper Simon Mignolet has a largely mixed reputation among football fans and pundits alike. However the Belgian international actually has a penalty saving record which is better than most people would think.
The 29-year-old Mignolet has not managed to churn out brilliant performances on a regular basis for the Reds though his form has been good since the end of last season.
He pulled off a penalty save on Tuesday night in Liverpool’s Champions League qualification playoff against German club Hoffenheim.
The Bundesliga club were awarded a spot-kick after just 12 minutes and Mignolet did well to save fro Andrej Kramaric. During his time with the Reds, Mignolet has faced 20 penalties and of those, he has saved 7, which gives him an impressive save record of 35%.
Reds fans will certainly be hoping that he can continue to save spot-kicks this season as they look to challenge for major silverware.
