Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Eliott has admitted that team-mate Jonjo Shelvey did mess up during their team’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday though he did add that the Magpies players will continue to support him.
Shelvey was red-carded following a reckless challenge on Dele Alli and is now said to be out until September due to suspension.
Shelvey’s red-card would have definitely had a bad effect of the Newcastle team during the game, however many will feel disgruntled by the fact that Harry Kane should have also been awarded a red card after a dangerous scissor challenge on Florian Lejuene. Lejuene now faces a battle to be fit for next week’s game against Huddersfield.
Eliott said of his team-mate Shelvey, “He was down and dejected, he knows he’s messed up. He has held his hands up. That doesn’t make it right but that’s Jonjo and he’s come a long way since he’s been here.
“He’s working on things with his training regime on and off the pitch. He’s a great lad and sometimes that passion boils over.”
