Ex-Newcastle man questions the quality of Liverpool boss Klopp

The controversial Joey Barton has stated that he does not believe that Jurgen Klopp is not a “super-coach” and even rated Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as being better than the German.

Barton’s comments are definitely very questionable considering that Klopp won five major trophies during his time with Borussia Dortmund, while Pochettino has yet to win a major trophy.

Whilst speaking about Klopp, Barton said, “I haven’t at any stage said Klopp’s mediocre – I’ve just said he’s not a super coach. He’s not a Guardiola, he’s not a Mourinho, he’s not a [Carlo] Ancelotti. I think he puts himself in that bracket.

“I would go as far as to say that he’s not even a Pochettino. Bearing in mind that he’s earning £2m-a-season more than Pochettino, if you give me a straight up choice between the two, based on what I’ve seen in the English game, everyday I’m taking Pochettino.”

The 34-year-old Barton is no stranger to controversy or controversial comments and is currently a free agent after being released by Burnley at the end of last season.

He was banned from football for 18 months in April after being found guilty of a charge relating to betting. However the sentence was reduced by five months following an appeal.
