Derby boss Rowett gives his thoughts on Wolverhampton’s promotion chances

Derby County boss Gary Rowett has claimed that he has been impressed by Wolverhampton Wanderers after Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges claimed a 2-0 win over his side this weekend through goals from Barry Douglas and Ivan Cavaleiro.

Rowett also blasted his side for poor defending and though he was impressed by Wolves performance, he did add that it is too early to consider them promotion candidates.

Rowett said following his sides defeat to Wolves, “We had lots of possession and lots of the ball, but Wolves can make it difficult for teams by dropping into a strong, compact, shape,” he said.

“It was a really sloppy (first) goal from our point of view. It was a great strike but it’s going wide, it goes off Keogh’s leg and in. I was disappointed to be a goal down when there wasn’t a lot in the game at that point.

“Wolves are a good team, I saw them outplay Middlesbrough. They’re a good side, they defend in numbers, block space and make it so that you’re frustrated.

Wolves invested heavily this summer recruiting the likes of Ruben Neves, Roderik Miranda and Barry Douglas among others and there is no doubt that manager Nuno will be aiming for nothing less than a promotion challenge.
