Ronald Koeman explains why he is disappointed by Everton’s victory over Stoke

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that he was disappointed with his side’s performance on Saturday, despite seeing his side beat Stoke 1-0.

The Toffees claimed the win through a goal from Wayne Rooney but Koeman felt that his side were nervous on the day.

Koeman said following the game, “The points are really welcome because you don’t know what to expect on the first day. It wasn’t the performance we like.

“The team looked nervous on the ball – that’s the reason I changed the system at half time. We need to improve a lot.”

The Toffees will be aiming to challenge for a place in the top six of the Premier League this season and despite Koeman’s criticism, this win may give them extra confidence on the field as well as an improved mindset ahead of their upcoming fixtures this season.

The Merseyside club next play against Hajduk Split in the first leg of the Europa League playoff before facing off against Manchester City on August 21.
