Legend hands major warning to Liverpool

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed that should the Reds sign Virgil van Dijk, it will not solve their defensive problems.

The Merseyside club did not enjoy the best of starts to the new Premier League campaign as they drew 3-3 to Watford on Saturday.

The Reds are currently the favorites to sign van Dijk who has handed in a transfer request to Southampton.

Should the club manage to complete the signing of the Dutchman, he will definitely add more quality to their defence. It is also likely that van Dijk will end up leaving the Saints, though he will not be sold cheaply.

However, Carragher does not think the signing of van Dijk will be enough for Liverpool by saying, “It’s a down to the manager.

“(Liverpool’s) set-pieces are the worst in the league. You see the same thing year in, year out. It’s not rocket science, set-pieces and counter-attacks. One man won’t change Liverpool’s defence. On average, Liverpool concede almost fifty games a season.”
