According to reports, Manchester City prefer loaning Patrick Roberts to Southampton rather than to Celtic.
Roberts spent last season on loan with the Hoops and impressed as the club went on to claim an unbeaten domestic treble.
Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he would love to take the youngster on loan for another season.
However, City are said to prefer to send the player out on loan to Southampton due to the higher standards of English football as compared to Scottish football.
As Roberts will be unlikely to feature much for City this season, the club will likely be open to sending him out on loan in order to gain more experience at the highest level.
The 20-year-old proved last season that he has what it takes to succeed in Scottish football. Perhaps now is the right time to test himself in the English top flight.
