The latest news this morning indicates that Rafa Benitez is still angry over the failure to sign Chelsea’s young striker Tammy Abraham.
This in and of itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing to behold. Frustration is sometimes a valuable tool. However, the deal fell through a month ago, and it is now time for the Spanish boss to move on.
His frustration has been caused by a number of deals falling through, as well as Dwight Gayle continuing to be in a will he or won’t he play state.
When healthy, Gayle could well be a great striker at Premier League level. But, those days very rarely come, and that has only added to the former Liverpool manager’s ire.
But enough is enough. Benitez has always been a tough man to please, as documented countless times online. No one is asking him to become a happy-go-lucky coach with a great attitude.
However, hanging on to failures to sign players simply will not get him anywhere. Rather than focusing on the current team, he appears to be concentrated on things that have not worked out.
Benitez simply has got to move on with his life for the sake of himself and the team. What that means is up for debate.
Maybe he needs to just forget about it and look for a new striker. Maybe he needs to leave the club altogether. Either way, both he and the club will only prosper once he has moved on from this whole episode.
