Grayson makes surprising admission about Sunderland’s ability to attract players

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has revealed that there are many players who want to join his side.

The Black Cats boss said, “Players keep ringing and texting me asking to come. It’s embarrassing really because they are other people’s players but it is part and parcel of why this club can attract individuals.”

Many will be surprised by this revelation though, due to the Black Cats relegation as well as their financial constraints.

While current day players are known to join clubs for increased wages, Grayson indicated that this is no longer the case for Sunderland and added, “Players are coming here for footballing reasons 100 per cent, and not financial. That’s the biggest difference.”

The Black Cats are expected to undergo a difficult season this term after they lost two of their best players from last season, Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe following relegation.

It is also difficult to gain promotion during the season after being relegated and Grayson will need to have realistic expectations of his squad.
