FC Porto started its 17-18 Primeira Liga campaign this Wednesday, August 9 against Estoril at the Estadio do Dragao. The Portuguese giants had a spectacular start to the new season and to the new era under former Nantes manager Sérgio Conceição, defeating Estoril 4-0.
The Dragons dominated the encounter with the massive score line, 62-percent possession and an impressive 19 shots, eight on goal. Spanish defender Ivan Marcano and Algerian winger Yacine Brahimi scored a goal each but Malian striker Moussa Marega stole the show with a brace.
Miguel Layun had already been ruled out for this game because of illness. Mexican international Jesus Corona scored against Estoril last season but failed to do so in this game. “El Tecatito” did play in 73 minutes of the encounter and had a solid match before being subbed out for Portuguese winger Hernâni.
Hector Herrera, who has been out of form recently did not feature in the starting 11. The Mexican midfielder came on late in the game for Spanish midfielder Oliver Torres and only played 10 minutes in the first game of the season. Diego Reyes was also present at the Estadio do Dragao but sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
Reyes is returning to Portugal after loan spells with Real Sociedad and Espanyol and it seems like he will not be a consistent starter under Sérgio Conceição. The win was a spectacular way to start the new season for Porto with its new manager but maybe players like Diego Reyes should find a quick exit from the club
