Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Jordan Amavi was not included in his side that drew 1-1 with Hull on the opening day of the Championship season due to the speculation surrounding the player’s future.
The French international Amavi has been strongly linked with a move away from the Villains and was supposedly on the verge of an £8 million move to Spanish club Sevilla.
However it was reported that the deal broke away after the player failed a medical with the Spanish club, a claim which Villa have denied and which has created tension between the two clubs.
Bruce has now admitted that the speculation played a role in Amavi being excluded from the side and said, “With all the stuff that’s linked to Jordan Amavi, I’ve had to make a decision. I’ve had to leave one or two, three or four or five out.
“We’ve got too many so unfortunately he had to be left out but I just thought I probably need attacking players rather than defenders.”
