Two of the biggest story lines revolving around the Premier League at the moment have to do with Everton’s Ross Barkley and Newcastle’s frustrating transfer window to date. Rafa Benitez has admitted that it’s been “difficult,” but here is an idea that can help all parties out.
Ross Barkley wants out of Everton it looks, and even if he doesn’t, it’s looking like he might not be first choice any longer. Despite links with Spurs, it’s hard to see them ponying up to buy him for huge money. Thus, a move to Newcastle has been mooted, and it looks a good option for all involved. Provided one thing.
It must be a loan-to-buy deal. This would be a huge coup for Newcastle, who are struggling to bring in players of proven quality. There is a lot of room for growth for Barkley, no doubt, but he could be afforded that chance at Newcastle along with another Englishman, Jonjo Shelvey in midfield.
The loan would allow Newcastle to save their money, as well as making sure that they are able to stay afloat this season. If all goes well, then they sign on Barkley for next season after they are more established and capable of paying a little bit more.
By moving to Tyneside, Barkley can be the central figure in the team, which is something he certainly will not be any longer at Everton- if he ever truly was.
All parties would, presumably, be happy here as it would also allow Everton to get him- his salary and attitude as well- off the books and away. If they decide to bring him back, he could end up being a changed player and man. And if not, they can simply move on for good next summer by selling to Newcastle or another side that fancies a go at him.
