This Saturday, August 5, 2017 (5:06 PM Pacific) Leon will host Cruz Azul at the Estadio Leon for a match in the third round of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams have their fair share of problems but are expected to fight for the playoffs this season.
Leon has been one of the worst teams in the Liga MX this season, with a 3-0 loss against Atlas in week 1 and a 3-1 loss against Toluca in week 2. Javier Torrente’s spell with Los Esmeraldas seems to be in jeopardy with the underwhelming Clausura 2017 tournament and the disappointing start to this new season.
Club captain Mauro Boselli has been La Fiera’s lone goal scorer in these first two games of the season and the team does not look very promising despite having a solid roster. This game should be a very tough test for Torrente and his men and the win may be complicated even with the home-field advantage.
Cruz Azul has had a very nice start to the new season under Paco Jemez with a 2-0 win against Club Tijuana away from home and a 1-1 draw against Chivas at the Estadio Azul. La Maquina has a very promising squad that can fight for a playoff spot and potentially the title with players like Angel Mena and Edgar Mendez.
Los Celestes are still playing an enticing style of soccer that was adopted last season under Paco Jemez. This game should be very entertaining and potentially filled with a few goals to make for one of the best matches in the Liga MX this weekend.
