According to reports, Sunderland are on the brink of signing goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter. The 30-year-old Ruiter is said to have verbally already agreed to a two year contract with the Black Cats.
The Dutchman was offered a trial with the club and impressed during the period during games against Bradford and Scunthorpe United.
Following the departures of Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone this summer, the Black Cats are without an established keeper and signing Ruiter will be a no brainer at this stage. The keeper has vast experience, having played 137 times in the Dutch League for FC Utrecht.
Ruiter will be expected to compete with Jason Steele for the first choice goalkeeper position next season.
Sunderland are currently a club in doldrums and following their recent 5-0 pre-season friendly defeat against Celtic, some have even suggested that they may face relegation from the Championship during the upcoming season. As a result, they may need to get all the experience that they can get.
