Owen describes Liverpool’s contract agreement for star as ‘amazing business’

Liverpool legend Michael Owen has claimed that his former club are in a better place after getting Philippe Coutinho to pen a new deal at the club.

Coutinho was one of the stars of the Merseyside club last season as they finished fourth in the Premier League and clinched a place in the Champions League for only the second time in eight seasons.

Owen said, “Liverpool did an amazing bit of business by signing Coutinho to a new contract, especially when you look at Sanchez and Arsenal and the problems it’s causing around the club.

“Since Coutinho signed the new contract Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League, bought more quality players and are in a better place than they’ve been for a long time.”

The Brazil international Coutinho signed a new contract at Anfield in January which is valid till 2022.

Recent reports have emerged suggesting that Barcelona are interested in the 25-year-old as a possible replacement for Neymar, who has been linked with a world record move to PSG but with his contract intact, Liverpool are under no pressure to sell.
