The Chronicle reports Ivan Toney could be all set to be loaned to League One side Wigan Athletic from Newcastle United.
The youngster has been impressive in the pre-season but not as much to gain the confidence of Rafa Benitez and to find a footing in Magpies’ squad.
The 21-year old spent last term on loan as well at Scunthorpe United where he scored 6 goals in 15 appearances. His consistency has been a real problem that makes Benitez intent to send him away from St. James’ Park.
Toney, despite being positive regarding his stay at Newcastle United wants to get more first team minutes.
However, Benitez wants quality and not quantity in his squad. Whereas the outbound striker feels he is ready to perform at first team level, Benitez is likely to loan him to his probable destination, Wigan Athletic.
