League One side reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United attacker

According to reports, Newcastle United youngster Ivan Toney is a target of Wigan Athletic.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Scunthorpe, is seemingly not part of the Magpies plans for the upcoming campaign and the club will allow him to spend next season with Wigan.

After joining Newcastle from Northampton Town in 2015, Toney has not managed to establish himself within the clubs first team, boasting just four first team appearances in all competitions.

Therefore, the club will want him to go out and prove himself during the upcoming season and he should he handed opportunities to do so by Wigan.

Toney however did manage to impress during Newcastle’s Whitby tournament over the weekend and there have been talks he could stay put.

Youth coach Peter Beardsley said about the future of the youngster, “It sounds a little silly, because no idea would be the honest answer as to whether he goes out on loan as it is not my decision, but there will definitely be interest so it could well happen. It is not up to me, and if I was really selfish I’d rather he played for me!”
