Koeman and Everton board reportedly discussing the signing of £12million-rated Dutchman

As per Liverpool Echo, Everton are considering to make a move on Lazio centre-back Wesley Hoedt.

The Toffees are seeking for a cover in defence following Ramiro Funes Mori’s injury mishap, and could be willing to pay for Hoedt’s £12million asking price.

The Dutch plays at the left of central defence like the Argentine, but manager Ronald Koeman is particularly keen on a player able to also cover at left-back and in deep midfield.

He wants a utility man so as to prevent having to make 2 or 3 more separate signings instead.

While the Netherlands international isn’t a utility player, it’s likely he gets to feature in those aforementioned positions if he makes a switch to the Goodison Park.

The former AZ defender has 2 years left on his contract, and is also being monitored by Southampton.

Hoedt, 23, played 23 Serie A games last term and weighed in 2 goals. Lazio wouldn’t hesitate to let him go if suitors meet his asking price, but Everton are leaving their options open in search of a utility man.

He is some sort of last resort if need be to turn to a contingency plan in the end, but he sure can prove a bargain given his quality and wealth of experience.
