As per the Daily Mail, Everton aren’t willing to let veteran midfielder Gareth Barry call time on his Goodison Park this summer, and they are ready to offer the 36-year-old a new one-year extension.
The ex-England international is courting interest from West Bromwich Albion, with the Tony Pulis-managed side ready to offer him a two-year contract.
Barry featured prominently for the Toffees last term, sitting entirely out of just 5 league games while starting 23 and coming off the bench on 10 occasions.
With boss Ronald Koeman having added to his midfield over the window, Barry’s game time is expected to drop, but even at that, Everton aren’t prepared to lose him due to what he brings to the team.
The ex-Manchester City man shows no sign of ageing and can still play at an excellently decent level for one more term at least.
Barry can still be able to dictate the tempo of the game, break down opposition attack and connect his defense to the frontline with a single pass.
West Brom’s gain if he is lured away will definitely be Everton’s loss as they need all hands on deck for the fixtures-packed campaign ahead.
