Dean Saunders is clearly a staunch supporter of Aston Villa and according to the Daily Star, the former Aston Villa striker, considers the John Terry arrival as the best transfer of the summer.
He also goes on to state that the signing is a huge one, surpassing even the Manchester United’s capture of Romelu Lukaku for £75million.
Saunders said: “Forget Lukaku going to Manchester United – Villa signing John Terry on a free is the deal of the summer. It’s a bigger signing. It’s the best signing. If I was the manager of any of the top six in the Premier, I would have signed him.
“For me, that just shows you what must have been said behind the scenes by Steve and the owners to get him. John must have thought ‘I’ll have a bit of this.’
“He’s nowhere near finished. If I was Arsene Wenger, I would have signed him. I know he wouldn’t have gone there because he didn’t want to play against Chelsea, but you get the point. If I was at Liverpool, I would have taken him. Same thing applies, but that’s how highly I rate him.”
Aston Villa have taken in Terry on a free transfer this summer, which Saunders reveals is an unexpected but excellent move by the club.
Terry has had a great career with Chelsea and was on an extended one year contract with the club, when Aston Villa grabbed him. Within days of the signup, the central defender was made captain of the Aston Villa team.
This is not the first time Dean Saunders is pitching in for the club. Earlier in March, 2017, Saunders had claimed that Aston Villa are bigger than Everton FC. It looks like the Welsh manager is firing on all guns for the club.
