In what will not be good news for fans of Sunderland, the Black Cats have been tipped as one of the teams that could face relegation from the Championship during the upcoming season.
Though Simon Grayson will have realistic expectations of his side considering the squad overhaul that took place following the team’s relegation from the Premier League as well as the limited budget which he has, a relegation battle will not be something that he will be looking forward to.
Following the Black Cats’ 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Scottish giants Celtic last weekend, almost a quarter of bets on Championship relegation have been placed on the club according to oddschecker.
Oddschecker spokesman Teague Calvin said: “Many believe Celtic would barely compete in the Championship, so for them to run riot at the Stadium of Light has sparked a surge of bets on the Black Cats being relegated for the second year in a row.
“Surprisingly, that now means there have been more bets on Sunderland being relegated this season than there were on them being relegated from the Premier League.”
