West Ham legend delivers a warning to Everton attacker

Former West Ham star Matthew Upson has said that Ross Barkley will need to improve his game if he is to achieve his potential at a top four club.

Upson said of Barkley, who is currently pinning his hopes on earning a move to a top four side, “I think Ross Barkley has the potential to be a top four player. That’s the key. If he went to Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino could give him things he needs to be that top-four player.

“Some of the things you see in him at times, you think if you could hammer things into him, you could have a top player.”

The England international Barkley is likely to be sold by the Toffees this summer after rejecting the chance to sign a new contract with the club.

Ronald Koeman has already brought in Dutch international Davy Klaassen as a replacement for the 24-year-old and made him available for a transfer.

Barkley has been with the Merseyside club since he was 11, and scored six goals from 39 appearances last season to help Koeman’s side to seventh position in the League.
