The Cruz Azul vs Chivas 2017 match will be held this Saturday, July 29, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azul for a match-up in the second round of Apertura 2017 play. Both teams have some problems but are expected to make the playoffs in this tournament.
Cruz Azul had a spectacular start to its Apertura 2017 campaign, defeating Club Tijuana 2-0 away from home. Fresh signing Edgar Mendez scored both goals in the encounter and is really looking like the prominent goal scorer that Paco Jemez has been looking for. La Maquina did not play the best in Tijuana but achieved the three points and took advantage of the Xolos’ mistakes.
Martin Cauteruccio, who had a rough Clausura 2017, looked decent in the season opener, with a few scoring opportunities and an assist to one of Edgar Mendez’s goals. Cruz Azul is an exciting team with a very talented squad and it can win this game against a dismantled Chivas’ team.
Chivas had a solid start to the Apertura 2017 with a scoreless draw against Toluca, without a lot of key players like Orbelin Pineda, Rodolfo Pizarro, Oswaldo Alanis and Jair Pereira. While Pereira, Pineda and Pizarro are set to return in this game for Los Rojiblancos, Matias Almeyda will still have a few key absences. Oswaldo Alanis, Alan Pulido and Jose Juan Vazquez are set to miss this game because of injury and that can prove to be a huge blow for the team from Guadalajara.
El Rebano Sagrado did well against Toluca but is coming from a midweek 2-0 defeat against Santos Laguna in the Copa MX. This game should be very challenging for Chivas but it should prove to be an exciting encounter at the Estadio Azul.
