According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United’s pursuit of Tottenham utility player Eric Dier looks to have come an end following the admission of the club’s manager Jose Mourinho.
The England international midfielder has frequently been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, but Spurs aren’t willing to let their man go and even reportedly ignored a £40million bid from the Red Devils.
Jose, though, now appears to have finally admitted defeat in the pursuit of the 23-year-old.
While speaking on a range of subjects of recent, Mourinho talked about Tottenham’s transfer plans, “I think until now they (have) spent zero pounds, right? For me the dimension of their investment is amazing. They keep everybody they want to keep.
“They keep Dele Alli, Kane and Alderweireld, they keep Eric Dier, they keep everyone they want to keep.”
Spurs want to take a stronger shot at the Premier League title next term having had close shaves in the last two seasons, and are unwilling to sell their most important players like they have often done in the past.
Kyle Walker’s move to Manchester City was only agreed upon because boss Mauricio Pochettino already earmarked Kieran Trippier as a suitable like-for-like replacement, and it is downright impossible to see Dier leave for United this summer.
Due to the unparalleled versatility and quality he brings to the table, the Englishman definitely remains huge part of the Argentine manager’s plans for next season.
