Everton boss Koeman explains what impact Wayne Rooney will have at Goodison

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that Wayne Rooney will be a leader for his club and help it go to the next level during the upcoming season.

The Merseyside club have shown their intent on challenging for a top four place during the upcoming season by signing Rooney as well as Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen.

Rooney, who left Everton to join Manchester United in 2004 as a highly rated youngster, returns to his boyhood club win a winning mentality after being part of Red Devils squads which have claimed five Premier League titles, a Europa League, Champions League, FA Cup and three League Cups.

Koeman has now revealed that the presence of the 31-year-old Rooney will have a positive influence on his team by saying, “He has a lot of experience. He is an important player on the pitch but also important for his team mates and certainly the young players to show them what you need to do to reach that high standard of football.

“That means he needs to be a leader off the pitch and if I see how he’s working and what he’s doing with all the players it’s really what we want.”
