The Daily Mail has reported of Liverpool’s interest in the current situation of wantaway Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian international wants to leave King Power Stadium in order to keep playing Champions League football, but the club aren’t willing to let him go for anything below their £50million asking price.
AS Roma have already seen a £30million plus add-ons bid rejected over the weekend, and if Liverpool are ready to enter into talks at this stage with Leicester City isn’t ascertained yet.
Kop manager Jurgen Klopp is planning for life without summer target Nabil Keita having seen RB Leipzig rebuff two transfer attempts, while Coutinho’s Liverpool future is also under threat with the constant Barcelona links.
The midfield remains integral to Klopp’s plans, and Mahrez has the ability to deliver much-needed verve in case Keita doesn’t arrive or Coutinho shockingly leaves.
The north African star finished seventh on the 2016 Ballon d’Or final list after playing a huge role in the Foxes fairytale campaign, and there is nothing to suggest he can no longer rediscover that form that saw him notch 17 league goals and 11 assists.
Leicester’s £50million tag could however deter Liverpool if or when they make a bid.
