The Sunday Express has reported of Everton’s interest in signing up Leicester City striker Islam Slimani with preparations for next season underway.
Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud had earlier been identified as a transfer target, but he could likely be willing to stay to fight for his place.
In light of that, the club’s Dutch manager Ronald Koeman wants to go after Slimani. The Algerian international arrived the King Power Stadium from Sporting Lisbon last summer off the back of a stunning campaign that saw him net 27 league goals.
The 29-year-old bagged 7 goals and 4 assists in 23 Premier League games last term, and could give ex-Malaga man and summer signing Sandro Ramires enough competition if lured successfully to Goodison Park.
Slimani is currently Leicester City’s club record signing after his £28million arrival, and it isn’t likely the former Premier League champions will let him depart for anything less.
Signing Slimani would help compliment Everton’s current striking options. This could even prove to be a perfect signing if he rediscovers the form of his Sporting Lisbon days under the guidance of Ronald Koeman.
