This Saturday, July 22, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) Club America will host Queretaro at the Estadio Azteca for a match-up in week 1 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Queretaro defeated Club America in the SuperCopa MX just a week ago and this should prove to be another interesting encounter.
Club America is currently in a transitional phase with Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera at the helm. Las Aguilas had a busy offseason and still seem to be looking to add players to their roster. One of the most notable signings for the Mexico City side this summer was the addition of Guido Rodriguez from Club Tijuana. The Argentine international should help Club America as the focal point of the midfield and should make Los Azulcremas a rigid side.
The defense is worrying for Miguel Herrera as it did not look the best in that Supercopa MX game against Queretaro but the formidable midfield and attack should make Miguel Herrera’s side the favorite to take the three points from this game in front of a home crowd.
Queretaro was a very intriguing team in the Liga MX Clausura 2017, finishing in 15th but playing very well in certain games throughout the season. After Jaime Lozano took over as manager, the team instantly performed much better and should keep that trend going in this tournament. Los Gallos Blancos were subtle in their offseason signings but did strengthen the team by bringing in Javier Guemez from Club America and Erbin Trejo from Toluca, to solidify the midfield and Alexis Perez from Atletico Junior to fortify the defense.
One of the biggest news for Queretaro this summer was that it managed to keep star goalkeeper, Tiago Volpi, who should be a force in net once again in this tournament. This game should be a challenging task for Los Gallos, especially away from home and should prove to be a very entertaining clash.
