Club America had a lackluster Clausura 2017 tournament, finishing in ninth with 24 points, missing out on the playoffs. The fans and the ownership new that a change was imminent for the upcoming season and Club America did act fast firing manager Ricardo La Volpe and sporting president Ricardo Pelaez.

The replacements for the pair were some old faces, Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera taking over as the manager and Santiago Banos taking over Ricardo Pelaez’s role as the sporting president. Both were part of the Mexico City team’s Apertura 2013 championship and will be looking to lead Las Aguilas to another championship or at least to a solid playoff run in the upcoming tournament. Miguel Herrera has had a busy offseason bringing in players like Carlos Vargas, Guido Rodriguez, Carlos Orrantia and Pedro Arce.

The biggest additions to Club America this offseason have both come from the Tijuana Xolos in their new manager Miguel Herrera and defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez. Ricardo La Volpe was missing a player like Rodriguez to control the midfield and recover the ball constantly before the opposition got into his penalty area. While Club America was missing a manager like Miguel Herrera to create a spark within its players and get the most of a demotivated squad with a plethora of potential.

Los Azulcremas are always expected to make the playoffs in every tournament and are even expected to take the title by its very demanding fan base. Club America has a very competitive squad for this upcoming Apertura 2017 led by Miguel Herrera on the sidelines and Guido Rodriguez in the heart of the midfield. The pair were able to help Xolos get two consecutive first-place finishes and should help Club America improve massively in this upcoming season.
