This Thursday, July 20, 2017 (6:30 PM Pacific) Manchester United will play Manchester City at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas for a match in the 2017 International Champions Cup. Both teams had disappointing 16-17 campaigns and will be looking to give a better fight for the title in this upcoming season.
Manchester United finished in sixth in the 16-17 EPL season and will not see Champions League football in this upcoming season. Jose Mourinho has already made some tremendous signings this offseason to make a top-four finish this season, most notably bringing in Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
The Red Devils already have a talented core of players that should help the team compete for the title against rivals Manchester City and other top EPL clubs. This game will be an extremely challenging task for Jose Mourinho’s men and should provide a spectacular clash for the fans.
Manchester City also had an underwhelming 16-17 campaign under Pep Guardiola, finishing third with 78 points, just three points ahead of Arsenal, who finished fifth. The Citizens have had a quiet offseason, so far bringing in the goalkeeper, Ederson from Benfica and the right-back, Kyle Walker from Tottenham to strengthen the back line. Another important signing this offseason has been the acquisition of the Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva from Monaco.
More signings are set to come to the Etihad in the coming days as Benjamin Mendy from Monaco and Arsenal star, Alexis Sanchez may make a move to Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is expected to fight for the title better than he did last season and this game should be a good parameter to see where the team is at.
