This Wednesday, July 19, 2017 (5:30 AM Pacific) Liverpool will play Crystal Palace at the Hong Kong Stadium for a match in the Premier League Asia Trophy. The tournament is not the most prestigious one but it is always nice to get a championship before the EPL season kicks off.
Liverpool had an outstanding 16-17 EPL season, finishing in fourth, which means Champions League football for The Reds in this upcoming season. Jurgen Klopp is already making some important transfers to strengthen his squad heading into the new campaign. One of the more notable signings has been the Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah from Roma, who should fortify the attack and make a deadly duo with Sadio Mane up top.
Unfortunately, that partnership will not be seen in this game as Mane is still recovering from an injury and will not be available for this tournament in Hong Kong. It will still be interesting to see how Salah can play in his second official game with Liverpool after scoring in his debut for the club against Wigan Athletic.
Crystal Palace had a rough 16-17 season, finishing in 14th, fighting for relegation but did have a much better second half of the season after Alan Pardew’s departure from the club. The London based team is now in a transitional stage under Frank de Boer and has a rigid squad that can have a solid mid-table finish. Players like Christian Benteke, Yohan Cabaye and Wilfred Zaha can make Palace an exciting team to watch and should give The Eagles a competitive chance in this game.
