This Wednesday, July 19, 2017 (3:00 AM Pacific) Leicester City will play West Bromwich Albion at Hong Kong Stadium for a match in the 2017 Premier League Asia Trophy. The winner of the match will advance to the final and a piece of silverware before the EPL season starts would be a huge boost of confidence for either team.
Leicester City went from champions to fighting relegation at one point of the 16-17 season, finishing in 12th with 44 points, only 10 points out of the drop zone. The Foxes still had a very impressive showing in the Champions League, being knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals. Claudio Ranieri was controversially dismissed from his duties as Leicester’s head coach but Craig Shakespeare did do a fine job taking over Ranieri’s role.
Shakespeare has not had a busy off-season so far but one of the staples of the club, Riyad Mahrez is heavily rumored with an exit from the club. One of the more notable names brought in this off-season has been former Sevilla midfielder, Vicente Iborra. Leicester’s upcoming season is unpredictable but a win in this game would be a step in the right direction to a successful campaign.
West Brom had a solid 16-17 campaign finishing right at mid table in 10th but will be looking to perhaps exceed expectations in this upcoming season. A key departure this off-season was Saido Berahino moving away from The Hawthorns over to the bet365 Stadium with Stoke City. Tony Pulis might need another forward before the EPL season starts as Salomon Rondon is also rumored to be leaving the club.
For now, the most notable signing that West Brom has made this off-season is Jay Rodriguez coming in from Southampton. The English winger is a potent forward that can solidify Tony Pulis’ attack and it will be interesting to see how the fresh signing can do in this game against a tough opponent. The match should be a hard-fought encounter between two potent Premier League clubs and should turn out to be an exciting duel.
