Leeds United reportedly interested in 29-year-old English defender

According to reports, Leeds United are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick.

After joining the Villains from Bournemouth in 2016, Elphick has endured mixed fortunes with the club. He was appointed club captain whilst Roberto Di Matteo was manager; however since the arrival of Steve Bruce, he has fallen down the pecking order at the club.

Elphick may now feel that this summer may be a good time to move on from the club as the arrival of veteran defender John Terry at Villa could mean that his first team opportunities next season will be reduced.

Leeds do need to add new central defenders to their squad ahead of next season.

As it stands, Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson are the only two experienced defenders in the squad and the club will also not have Kyle Bartley to call upon next season, with the player having returned to his parent club Swansea City.
