Tottenham reportedly pass Liverpool in the race to sign German international

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Schalke midfielder Max Meyer for £17 million.

Meyer has been wanted by a host of major European clubs since he played a vital role in helping the Germany under-21 team win the European Championships.

Reports have suggested that the 21-year-old Meyer does not wish to extend his current contract with the Bundesliga club and with just 12 months remaining, they may have no choice but to sell.

In addition to this, Meyer has already been capped by the German national team, for whom he boasts four appearances and one goal.

Tottenham are looking to bolster their side as they aim to challenge for major silverware next season and Meyer will no doubt be a good addition to the side.

The fact that Mauricio Pochettino has a good reputation of developing young talent may also appeal to him.
