According to Claret and Hugh, a website dedicated to West Ham United, the Hammers had a chance to sign Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and were close to doing so.
However, according to the report, the move was “snubbed by Bilic at the eleventh hour,” because he believed the player “was unproven and too much of a risk.”
The veracity of this report is up for debate, but if true this is a real mistake in my estimation.
Iheanacho might be young and relatively inexperienced, but he is one of Manchester City’s brightest talents and has almost always scored when given the chance.
Instead of making signings like Daniel Sturridge (also rumored for months), this is the type of deal that is needed.
Iheanacho could be brought in and make an instant impact. Four goals in very limited time last season show his potential, and the Hammers are set to miss out on a huge talent.
